there was a point in my life when i wore belts all the time. i think this was because all the pants i wore were 3 sizes too big. what can i say? the big pants went with my combat boots. anyway, for some reason these are the few that i have kept. i guess i was thinking these were the nice ones. please observe the beautiful chain maille selection….one of the nice ones…i mean really?

i’m probably going to wind up in the dog house over this post, but it had to be written. behold. the hubby’s collection of deodorant. some are full, some are not. it is an interesting pattern with him – nothing is ever empty…drinks, contact solution, cologne…i always wind up collecting bottles that have something left in the bottom. now in all fairness, 3 of these are newly acquired because they came in a 4 pack from costco…but i still don’t understand why he needed new ones when there were so many others to choose from. at least we know he isn’t smelly. OJPTL.

from far away, it’s hard to tell what this is right? here’s the funny thing (or rather the geeky thing) i took this with a close-up filter on my lens, so what you are seeing is actually a tiny version of a claw. seriously – it’s barely big enough to fit between 2 fingers. i had a couple of these mini clips…from the late 90′s. the others broke, but luckily this one is still in one piece…and still sparkly! i don’t think i have done anything with my hair since then that involved clips, claws or sparkles. (and lucky for you all my banana clips are long gone.) however, i might be inclined to wear this one today since i am going to be on the internet in a little bit. don’t you think it would make me all fancy?! don’t forget to tune in to study hall – even to just say hi!

i belong to a wonderful photography forum called the [b] school through which i have met a ton of fantastic photographers from all across the world. yes. i said world! every thursday, [b] (aka becker) – the founder of [b] school hosts a live, on-line study hall with a guest. normally he has experts in the photo industry or their respective areas come on and chat about what they know and give advice to everyone.

well…this thursday, his guest will be….wait for it….ME! i know, i know….you are thinking the only thing i’m an expert in is chocolate chip cookies, so what could i possibly talk about – photography related – for an hour? well, this time around, he asked for someone new to the industry to come on and go through a mentoring chat with him while everyone watches. it’s bad enough one on one, but now everyone can watch too! ARGH! so…be sure to tune in on Thursday – August 19th at 4PM PST. i’ll be nervously laughing and waving at the camera and you can ask questions live via the chat room or twitter. now i have to go get ready for my close-up! Ha!

this was my favorite necklace when i was little. i loooooved raggedy ann. shockingly, i discovered that JC has no idea who raggedy ann and andy are (were?), so if you too are wondering, here’s a link for a little history. i still have the necklace. it makes me smile. i recall that some years ago i thought it would be fun to wear…only problem is that there is no clasp and i was too embarrassed to take it to get fixed.

yup. i have a polaroid camera…which on the spectrum of things we have kept doesn’t seem too terrible. it has actually been used often. the problem is that polaroid doesn’t make the film for it anymore, basically rendering it completely useless and worthy of the trash. i guess i am holding onto the hope that lady gaga will tell them they need to bring it back because it is retro and cool…?

there was a period of time when i thought i could be crafty enough to make jewelry. thank goodness i quickly learned that this was not the case. here is one of my attempts…it’s supposed to be a choker – to not only go with my red boots, but another pair of red shoes i had. i thought i was being clever and made a bunch of layers with memory wire…that way if i wanted to wear one or ten strands at a time, i had options. i wore it once – my brother asked my if i could breathe or if i was being strangled by beads. that was the end of the choker…and my jewelry making.

heeheee. remember when there were big displays of free postcards in bars? i loved those things. are they still there these days? anyway…this was my favorite one of all the ones i picked up and mailed to friends. i can’t remember how old it is, but i do know that it was proudly posted on a few of my work desks – thus keeping out any unnecessary visitors. ha. i think it is safe to say i have mellowed in my age…i think. i hope. right?

i’ve been absent. i’m sorry dear blog. it has been a whirlwind the past few weeks. i’ve missed TWKT…twice. it’s not that i don’t have anything to post, because the house is full of things. i have just been…well..busy.

i was in DC for about 10 days visiting friends and guzzling water like it was going out of style. while 103 degrees sounds hot no matter where you are, it is nothing until you add in the humidity. i forgot what that was like…and actually, i don’t even remember it EVER being like that in DC. i was there for 15 years and nothing compares to the heat i experienced on this trip. i guess that could be due to a number of reasons, but honestly i think i have grown to like the southern cali weather. if only there were a true fall here, i would never leave…and if there were no earthquakes…and sales tax was lower…ok…maybe i would leave regardless.

this goes to show you how out of the loop i am – i hadn’t ever seen a beer canbottle (what do you call these things?) and was just giddy about it. my friend (and probably others at the bar) thought it was quite odd that i was taking pictures, but i truly was fascinated. (it’s the little things right?)

one of my nights there, we went to the roof of the W hotel – where the view is incredible. 10pm, still 100 degrees outside and 300% humidity (i kid you not). just after i took this, the sky opened up and there was a downpour like i haven’t seen since…well…i moved to CA. ha. but wow, the view and the city are still amazing. if you haven’t ever visited, you should…just wait until october when the leaves are changing and the humidity is gone!

i found this gem when i was cleaning out a large, under-the-bed container of picture frames. i can’t imagine why it was packed away when it should be on my keychain in case i get lost and forget my name. after all, it’s not like i am getting younger and my memory is getting better. case in point – i can’t remember where it came from. i think someone made it for me because i am fairly certain i don’t know how to make keychains. if someone did make it for me, they knew me very well as evidenced by the star, sun, color choice and correct spelling of my name (that’s another post for another day…). so, i am now seeking clues – anyone from my life in say 1990 – 1997 know where this came from? i have a feeling someone does.
